Frequently asked questions
How many types of unburnt bricks are there currently on the Vietnamese market?
In Vietnam, there are currently 3 types of unburnt bricks:
Aggregate concrete bricks:
Main raw materials: cement, grit and additives.
Production technology: manual, low productivity, slow supply, unstable due to heavy dependence on the weather for the product to have enough strength.
Previously, aggregate concrete bricks were the most commonly used unburnt bricks in Vietnam, but this material is currently being replaced rapidly due to its poor thermal insulation properties, strong water absorption and very heavy weight, causing inconvenience. Benefits during transportation and construction, especially high-rise buildings.

Foam concrete bricks:
- Main raw materials: cement, fly ash, foaming agent and additives.
- Production technology: manual, slow and unstable supply due to weather dependence.
- This material, in addition to being light in weight and relatively good insulating material, has no outstanding advantages and is used in few projects.
AAC autoclaved aerated concrete bricks:
- Main materials: sand, lime, cement, aluminum powder.
- Production technology: modern, self-contained, environmentally friendly autoclaved gas technology, ensuring consistent and stable quality, less dependent on weather, so capable of quick supply within just 2 – 5 days .
- AAC bricks are an extremely light unburnt material with many outstanding advantages, suitable for many types of climatic conditions, so they are increasingly trusted and used by many projects. This is also a material widely used in developed countries around the world such as the United States, Australia, Europe, China, Taiwan, Singapore…
Is the price of AAC EBLOCK lightweight concrete bricks higher than fired clay bricks?
AAC EBLOCK lightweight concrete bricks are produced on modern technological lines from Europe, meeting many domestic and international quality standards. In addition, AAC lightweight concrete bricks are always used for high-end projects. , so the price cannot be compared with common fired bricks.
However, if this type of AAC brick is included right from the design stage, the project will save a lot of costs such as: minimizing the cost of foundation structures, columns, beams, and shortening construction time. In addition, with outstanding sound and heat insulation features, AAC brick walls will bring energy savings during use while bringing construction quality to a whole new level.
Are AAC EBLOCK bricks a “Green” material?
EBLOCK bricks are produced using autoclaved gas technology and are recognized by the world’s Green Building Council for their low energy consumption both during production and use. In addition, AAC EBLOCK bricks use non-toxic materials, do not cause loss of arable land and the closed production process does not pollute the environment like fired bricks, so the Government encourages them to be used instead. Terracotta brick materials are harmful to the environment.
Θ Did you know: In Vietnam alone, fired clay bricks annually consume 50 – 70 million m³ of land, equivalent to about 3,000 hectares of agricultural land, consuming 6 billion tons of burned coal and releasing about 23 billion tons of CO2.
Using what technology are AAC EBLOCK bricks produced?
AAC EBLOCK bricks are produced using Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) technology. This technology was invented by a Swedish engineer and architect in the 1920s. With many outstanding advantages, AAC tiles quickly spread and were widely used around the world. It has been commonly used in Europe for nearly 100 years, in the Middle East, China, and India for more than 50 years, and in America and Australia for more than 40 years. Particularly in Vietnam and many Southeast Asian countries, it has only been introduced in the past 20 years but has developed very quickly, and is encouraged by the Government to use instead of terracotta brick materials that are harmful to the environment.
What materials are AAC EBLOCK bricks made from?
AAC EBLOCK bricks are produced from non-toxic materials such as sand, cement, lime, gypsum, and aluminum powder.
How light are AAC EBLOCK bricks?
With a dry volume of only 460-700 kg/m³, EBLOCK autoclaved aerated concrete bricks are 1/2 to 1/3 lighter than traditional terracotta bricks and only ¼ the weight of regular concrete bricks. The main reason is that the air bubble structure accounts for 80% of the entire structure inside the brick.
This is an outstanding feature that helps save the amount of materials for making frames and pile foundations, as well as making transportation and construction easy.
How fireproof are AAC EBLOCK brick walls?
Partition walls built of AAC EBLOCK lightweight concrete bricks can withstand up to 1200°C of normal fires and do not change structure when suddenly sprayed with cold water. Test results show that walls built with EBLOCK lightweight concrete bricks ensure safety for at least 4 hours in a fire, more than double that of traditional red bricks. In particular, when burned, it does not cause smoke or dangerous toxic gases.
Do AAC EBLOCK brick walls absorb water?
Like most wall bricks on the market, AAC EBLOCK bricks often absorb water, and are required to be waterproofed when built in wet areas such as outside walls or toilets.
However, understanding this need, we produce fully waterproof AAC EBLOCK lightweight concrete tiles specialized for damp wall areas. In addition, we recommend using EBLOCK specialized mortar and plaster for AAC to ensure the highest efficiency for the wall surface.
Is constructing AAC EBLOCK brick walls simple?
Construction of AAC EBLOCK brick walls is quite simple. You can refer to the Detailed Construction Instructions here.
